The Renault 4, simply known here as the Katrca, was produced at the IMV factory in Novo Mesto from 1973. Over the next two decades, it became a familiar sight on roads across Yugoslavia and one of the era’s most recognisable cars.
The Katrca was made for everyday life. A family car and a workhorse, equally at home in the city or the countryside, packed for a seaside holiday or simply getting through the day. There was no fuss about the colour either. For a time, four colours were available, but buyers did not get to choose. They simply drove away in whichever colour was coming off the production line at the time. Simple, functional and endlessly practical, it became part of everyday life for generations across the former Yugoslavia and remains instantly recognisable today.
