The Metalka skyscraper is considered the first office skyscraper in Ljubljana and one of the most important symbols of Slovenian modernist architecture. Designed by architect Edo Mihevc and completed in 1963, its construction marked a new era of development and modernization for the city. Inspired by New York’s iconic Seagram Building, Metalka featured an innovative aluminium façade that represented the pinnacle of Slovenian engineering and design expertise at the time. Today, it remains one of Ljubljana’s most recognizable architectural landmarks and an enduring symbol of a period when Slovenian architecture confidently kept pace with international trends.
